Synopsis
In 1950s Amsterdam, a Black Surinamese musician clashes with his father over the best way to adapt, as they struggle to stay afloat in a society that sees them (only) as exotic entertainers.

Bio Director
Nicole van Kilsdonk studied at the Dutch Film and Television Academy, graduating in directing and screenwriting in 1991. She works as a director and screenwriter and has made both feature films and television productions for adults and children. Her films include Johan, How to Survive… Myself?, Taking Chances, Ventoux, The Day My Father Became a Bush, and Love Revisited. Her work has been screened at international festivals, including the Berlinale and the Toronto International Film Festival, and has received several awards. For Deining (2004), she won the Golden Calf for Best Television Drama. In 2024, she co-directed the Videoland series Bennie. She is currently working on the feature film Breakwater (Noodweer) and on the film Woiski.
Manoushka Zeegelaar Breeveld studied Cultural and Social Development, specializing in education and personal development. Since 1996, she has worked as an actress and singer with various theatre companies, including Cosmictheater, Urban Myth, and Het Nationale Theater. She also writes for theatre and film, as well as music and lyrics. Her latest album, Nine Reflections on Love, was released in April 2020. In addition, she is an artist-in-residence at Orkater, where she has performed in productions including De Gliphoeve and De plantage van onze voorouders.
