Les Lunes Rousses

Synopsis
The name of Tüncay means red moon in turkish. At 9, Tüncay, my aunt, is torn from the carelessness of her childhood in Anatolia. She has to join her sister, my mother, in Belgium, to take care of us, the children. Then, barely an adolescent, an arranged marriage propels her abruptly into the meanders of life. Her dreams collide brutally with violence and early pregnancies. And, everything implodes. Tüncay is precipitated in a survival that continues today. Through four generations of women, it’s the story of a scenario that is repeated, early marriage, that I also suffered. It’s a journey from the steppes of Anatolia to the northern cliffs, passing through Ghent and Brussels where we meet our daughters, Pınar and Cansev. Red Moons, is a mirror portrait where the story of all women is reflected.

She made her first short documentary ‘Our Wedding’. A film in ‘I’, where she explores the subject of early marriage. ‘Beyond Ararat’ (2013), is a continuation of this first work, the quest for identity and memory through portraits of Anatolian women (Turks, Kurds and Armenians). The main theme that she treats in cinema is woman. Her documentary film ‘Rendez-vous sur le quai’ was produced as part of an exhibition for the Brussels City Architecture Foundation. ‘Red Moons’ (2019), full length documentary, with ‘Our Wedding’ and ‘Beyond the Ararat’, closes the trilogy on the quest for identity.
